LATE MORNING

MIDDAY

AFTERNOON

GOLDEN HOUR

Mornings book quick - but here's our case for waiting for an afternoon session 🔥

Spend the morning on the beach watching the surf come up, scoping the lineup, and getting a feel for the conditions. Then paddle out in the afternoon with your homework already done — the water's been warming since sunrise, the lineup thins out, and the 3:30 slot wraps right at golden hour.

The afternoon times are quietly our locals' pick.

 Watching, not surfing?

Our lessons go out right in front of the Sea Wall — which means anyone tagging along can post up there and watch the whole thing for free.

No beach admission, no parking lot fee, no ticket required 🤙

⎯ WHAT TO EXPECT

From dry sand, to your first wave .

Most of our students stand up during their first surf lesson.

Here's how an hour with us actually goes - so you can show up ready to go instead of nervous.

𝟷

FIRST 10 MINUTES

Beach Intro

Meet your instructor, get fitted to a wetsuit, walk through paddling and the pop-up on dry sand.

𝟸

10-25 MINUTES

Into the water

Paddle out. Your instructor positions you, calls the wave, gives you a push when you need one.

𝟹

25-60 MINUTES

Catching Waves

Whitewater rides, then proper  waves once you're ready. We coach in real time between every set.

𝟺

FINAL 10 MINUTES

Cool Down

Walk back to the surf truck, hand off the gear, and review how things went with your instructor.

GROUPS + PARTIES

Got a bigger crew?

Five or more? We've got you.

We've run bachelor and bachelorette parties, kid birthdays, school groups, church youth trips, family reunions, corporate retreats, and one memorable surprise 60th birthday for a guy who'd never touched a board.

⎯ WORDS FROM THE WATER

What students say after their surf lesson.

Kimberlee N.  Group Surf Lesson

I recently booked surf lessons for my nieces and nephew with Warm Winds, and I can’t say enough good things about the experience! The instructors, Jake and Maggie, were absolutely fantastic. They were patient, encouraging, and really tuned in to each child’s individual level—whether it was their first time on a board or they were already catching waves.

I highly recommend this surf school to anyone looking for quality instruction with kind, professional, and skilled instructors!

Laura N.  Private Surf Lesson

Had my first surf lesson in years with Sam who was super patient, encouraging, and taught me so much in just 1 hour.

It was an especially choppy day with big, relentless waves that were exhausting to paddle through—He made sure I got set up for every wave, even while he was getting clobbered by the waves too.

Thank you for an awesome lesson!

Kayla B.  Private Surf Lesson

I did a surf lesson at Narragansett with McKenna (I think that was her name) from warm winds and, although I was too chicken s@#% to actually stand up in the board, she gave me a great lesson and a lot of good tips.

I'll definitely be doing a few more lessons here so maybe next year I can buy a board.

See y'all next year 🤙

⎯  QUESTIONS, ANSWERED

The questions all first timers ask.

More than okay — it's exactly what we do. Most of our students have never been on a board before. The 60 minutes is built specifically for first-timers, and the soft-top boards we provide are designed to make standing up much easier than what you'll see in the lineup.

Warm Winds teaches surf lessons at Narragansett Town Beach in Narragansett, RI. We park our lesson truck in the south lot at the beach - and that is where you will meet your instructor prior to the lesson. You can't miss us, just look for the colorful surf truck!!

To ensure that you do not miss any time in your lesson, please show up at least 20 minutes early to get started with the paperwork and getting your equipment ready. Since our lesson schedule is typically booked solid thru the summer months, we cannot extend the lesson if you show up late.

Unfortunately parking in not provided as part of the lesson. The south lot (where we keep our surf truck) is residents only, however there is paid parking in the West Lot directly across the street for non-residents. You may also find free parking along the sea wall - but leave yourself extra time to find a spot and walk down to the beach.

Lesson times cannot be extended to accommodate late arrivals.

Unfortunately we cannot grant beach access with your surf lesson. If you do not have a beach pass, they can be purchased at a town beach kiosk located directly in front of our surf truck.

Bring a swimsuit (worn under your wetsuit), a towel, sunscreen, and water. We provide the surfboard and the wetsuit.

We take students from age 6 and up for private lessons. If your kid is under the age of 6 and a strong swimmer, give us a call — we'll talk it through. On the other end, you're never too old to learn to surf! We've had private lessons with participants into their 70's that have gotten up and ridden their first wave!

All cancellations must be made at least 48 hours prior to the starting time of your lesson to receive a full refund.

Changes made inside of the 48 hour window but prior to the 24 hour mark will receive a store credit to Warm Winds in the full amount of the lesson. The credit can then be used to book another lesson or for any in-store purchase.

Same-day cancelations and/or No-shows will incur the full charge of the lesson and will not be eligible to reschedule. No exceptions will be made.

Should the conditions be unfavorable on the day of your lesson, the instructor (at his or her sole discretion) may choose to reschedule the lesson.

All cancellations must be confirmed with Warm Winds Surf Shop staff. Last minute emails will not be accepted as a valid confirmation.
